The museum had a community open house Thursday to unveil the design for the planned facility to the public, according to a press release.
The project was designed by the New York City-based firm of Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The plan will repurpose the former UC Berkeley printing plant at 2120 Oxford Street with a new structure. The museum’s new digs will be located in Berkeley’s art district, it’s neighbors to include the Berkeley Repertory Theater, Aurora Theater, Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, and the Bancroft Library’s Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life.
The museum has raised $65 million of the $100 million needed. The project is expected to be completed in late 2015.
